AT and T Hiring Process

AT&T has opportunities for students, graduates and experienced professionals. The recruitment process may differ slightly depending upon business area, role, and career level but, to secure a role at AT&T, you'll need to perform well during all stages. The process is likely to look similar to the outline below.

AT&T Online Application

The first stage of the AT&T recruitment process is to find a vacant role that appeals to you and to log an online application. You'll need to share your personal details, educational background, and work history. You may also be asked a few questions regarding your motivation for applying to your chosen role.

Make sure your answers are concise, well-structured, and that any information around skills and experience you divulge is directly relevant to the open position.

AT and T Aptitude Tests

Alongside your written application, AT&T uses pre-employment testing to screen candidates. These may include multiple-choice aptitude tests, specific ability evaluations, or role-play assessments. A few of the most common tests are explored below.

AT&T Customer Service Assessment Test

The AT&T customer service assessment test is similar to a situational judgement test. You'll be presented with a series of hypothetical scenarios and asked to indicate the course of action you would take.

You may also be asked additional questions regarding how you have dealt with conflict or manage situations in the past.

If held in person rather than online, the customer service assessment test may also feature a role-play exercise.

AT&T Oral Proficiency Interview

If you're applying for a customer-facing role, AT&T may ask you to complete an oral proficiency interview to assess your ability to process new information and answer questions intelligently and concisely.

It will also evaluate your tone and manner to ensure you will be friendly and polite when dealing with customers. This is particularly common if English is not your first language.

AT&T Customer Service Representative Test

This test assesses the skills and qualities needed to be successful in a customer service role. It is a multiple-choice test featuring 175 questions.

These are split into sections and cover numerical reasoning, personality assessment, and situational judgement questions. You will have 1h30 to complete the test.

AT&T Microsoft skills test

Depending upon the role, AT&T may require you to sit a 30-minute test to assess your competency in using Microsoft programmes. The test will cover Microsoft Excel and Word, so make sure you know how to rapidly carry out key tasks and functions before taking the exam.

AT&T Telephone Ability Battery Test

The AT&T telephone ability battery test contains elements similar to both an error checking assessment and a verbal reasoning test. You'll be asked to sit four short tests, each eight minutes long.

The first test will evaluate your ability to match phrases and identify discrepancies. The second depicts a relationship between objects, and you'll be asked to select the answer that portrays a similar relationship dynamic from a list of options.

The third test is about accurately following instructions, and the fourth covers your language skills through recognition and selection of synonyms.

AT&T Interviews

AT&T interviews will either be held in person, online or via telephone, depending upon the circumstances. The interview is an important opportunity to convey your skills and talents to the recruitment team and highlight your enthusiasm for working at AT&T.

Your answers will need to be backed up by evidence from your past work (or education, if you are a graduate). The STAR (situation, task, action, result) technique is a useful way of framing your answers, to ensure they are strong and persuasive.

Depending upon the position you are applying for, you may be required to attend more than one interview. If this is the case, one of your interviews will focus upon behavioural and competency aspects, whilst the other(s) will be technical.

AT&T Orientation

If you receive a conditional offer, after a background check, you'll be invited to an AT&T orientation. Leading on from this, you may need to undertake certain training and certification programmes before you start your new role.
